Scenario 1
[Look it's pre-heavensward and you are the WOL and you are totally hanging out at the Falling Snows and your boy Haurchefant is SO EXCITED he's left you for a minute to relax and is returning with HOT COCOA because YOU NEED TO WARM UP. After all, you're always met with a warm hearth and warmer welcome at Camp Dragonhead.]
Scenario 2
[What the fuck there's a dragon trying to eat your face and suddenly thislong-necked giraffe guy in armor is leaping to your defense to fight the thing off. What a meeting.]

Where there previously sat a Sunseeker man, there is now an even smaller Au Ra woman, with similar coloring, wearing the exact same armor. In fact she seems to be fussing with the fit of it when he walks back in.]
I'mma do 1.
Duty calls.
Her feathered cap was placed upon the table, further shrinking the auri woman's already-petite form. The snow collected in the fibers had long melted, leaving the poor garment heavy and in need of a fire to toast it back into its usual dry warmth. Tipping her head, her fingers smoothed deep purple hair back into place- a girl couldn't have hat hair!
But it was in this act that a warm, familiar face decided to arrive with two mugs of piping hot chocolate. Feeling her face burn, she quickly composed herself and folded her hands tightly in her lap.]
O-oh! Oh, my... you're too kind. Thank you, friend.
1 (Nevermind that these are clearly my Hward icons shhhh)
The Coerthas Central Highland is none of these things. Here it is cold, and blustery and always seems to me smothered by stormclouds. It chills her to her bones and makes her joints ache a deep ache that Castor had hoped to never feel until she was an old crone.
And this is why she's commandeered the Falling Snows for the night, with the fire stoked high and a heavy wool blanket pulled tightly around herself. Castor has no qualms earning her keep in this fortress, but gods, does it take it's toll...
When she hears the door reopen, it takes what seems an inhuman amount of effort to free her head from her small nest and crane around to see who's come in.]
Ah? Lord Haurchefant!

I thought you might be taken by the cold. I confess you surprised me.

[She greets him with a sheepish smile, tilting her head up... And up again, adjusting for the even greater height difference in meeting his eyes.]
Thank you. I'll be a surprise for everyone, I think...
I thought to give warning, but I was not sure I would have the nerve to really do it.
[Reaches to warm her hands with one of the mugs.]

Not at all. You are always welcome here, my friend. Anything I can do to make you feel at home is the least I can do. You seem a bit weary this day, is aught amiss?
no subject
[With a cheerful, jolly tone he offers one of the mugs of steaming cocoa to Castor, settling himself next to her in a chair of his own.]
It is good to see you here, as always. Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable? Another log on the fire?

[He looks at her, intently more interested in this than in his cocoa, but then, it's odd, this is certainly his dear friend, but entirely different.]

Short of commanding the weather to behave itself, I'm afraid there's little else to be done, my friend. I suppose I shall have to adjust someday. Ahhh, but this is an immeasurable help.

This appearance will make it easier to move for a time.
[She is, after all, the Warrior of Light. It's far from unheard of for her to make snap decisions. But she breaks eye contact, thoughtfully examining the grain of the wood table while she considers her words.]
I also remembered something of my distant past. This was how I started.
2 because i can do what i WANT
estinien, pro dragon slayer, normally has no problems killing dragons of any size—the bigger the better, if he's honest.
but coerthas is full of the worst whiteout conditions, where a day may be so sunny it's impossible to see due to the reflection, down to it's snowing so hard that your footprints are covered as you make them. today it's not only cloudy, windy and snowy, but the dragons are using that to mask their approach. while he fights off two or three in front, he can't exactly see behind him (they've yet to come out with a drg helmet that allows mirrors on the sides! how dare)
which is basically how his life is saved, as a terrible blood dragon descends from the mists (why, it's so cold here??) to make a surefire attempt on the azure dragoon's life. ]
You have excellent timing.
[ or estinien does, and is always in need of saving when someone else is there to be a hero. his luck is warped that way.]

Instead, she accepted her mug and gave the surface a gentle puff of breath before she had her first drink. It won't be long before she'll finally feel that warmth in her core, and with a little luck it may finally spread out to her extremities.
Coyly, she canted her head in thought, masking the minute stiffness in her shoulders. Everything was amiss. But it wouldn't do to be truthful.]
A chill is all; I can't accurately say how long it's been since I've traveled this far north.
[She smiled up at him.]
I wouldn't make a very good ice sculpture.

I'm full glad to hear your memories returning. I would hear more if you'd share it.

[He smiles, patting his chest in a way to say "leave it to me" but his gaze is keen as he glances at Madhuri, worry beneath his smile. He would that he could join her on her adventures to watch her back instead of staying duty-bound to Camp Dragonhead, he wonders what burdens she bears even now beneath her smile.]
Is there aught else I can do for you, Madhuri?
1
Lord Haurchefant.
no subject
It's still all bits and pieces, but I'll share what I've made sense of.
[Sips her cocoa, as if to collect her thoughts, but takes another moment to savor the warmth and taste, making a face that should by all rights be accompanied by wiggling ears.]
This is delicious. You have my thanks.
...As for my memories, there's no doubt I've tasted a fantasia before now, though I would have been very young. I could have more to blame for my difficulties connecting with other Sunseekers than my Hellsguard upbringing.
[That last bit is said lightly, with a shrug. She's long since stopped fussing over that.]

Pray tell me, how have you been faring? I hope no dire errand brings you back here.
[A social visit is much preferable, and he hopes is more the purpose of this appearance than any stray mad gods or fiends that require slaying.]
2
in any case, this is great, because there's only so many times one can holy an overleveled dragon. ]
Oh, perfect timing.

[Haurchefant himself is a bit surprised. He was heading back from visiting Ishgard when the weather became a bit dangerous. Taking shelter in a scout's shack it was only luck that brought the sounds of a close battle to draw him out. Most surprising of all was finding Estinien in the thick of it.]
[Aiding him was only natural, an impulse he'd have followed whoever he'd encountered. The lands around Camp Dragonhead are his to protect after all, but when the battle is done and he can lower sword and shield he cannot help but feel a bit amused by the situation.]
I do at that, I think. This would have been an ignominious way to end the Azure Dragoon's story. There's a shack just yonder, shall we get inside until the weather clears?

[He sits beside O'kena after handing over that cocoa, smiling warmly as he sips his own.]
I am always happy to see you here. I hope no pressing errand calls you?
no subject
I thought I might invite myself to join the fun!
no subject
No need to ruin my fun, my lord, I had this under my complete control.
no subject
Fortunately not.
[ and not one to waste words. ]

[It's a question she's heard plenty. If something was amiss, or if there's anything they can do to help. Normally she would insist that all is well and there was no need of any of it, but perhaps the cold was getting to her. She wasn't sure.
But they were friends, weren't they?]
But I should apologize for arriving unannounced. I needed a friendly face.
[The smile tightened, embarrassed.]
Is it strange to feel lonesome, despite being surrounded by so many...?
no subject
Aye, it would. [ His story needs to end with a bloody lance, not... face down bleeding out in the snow. ] That seems like the best plan.
[ He's now indicating with his lance for him to lead the way. ]
I'M SORRYYYYYYYY
Perhaps it sounds a little irresponsible of me to say, but I've felt like an overworked errand girl of late - visiting and escorting and fetching and being oogled at all the while. [Under the blanket she shrugs and sighs happily.] Here, I am almost refreshingly anonymous to all but a very few of you. That you are among my dearest friends makes it all the better!
